Origins of Austrian Audio
The story of D’Addario spans back to the 17th century in Salle, A group of former AKG employees—which is a well-known Austrian producer of audio equipment—founded Austrian Audio in 2017. Unfortunately, many of AKG’s long-term employees left the company when Harman International Industries bought AKG in 2017.
As a result, the employees came together to form Austrian Audio. The founders of Austrian Audio wanted to create a new company focused on high quality. However, to understand the success of Austrian Audio—you must know the importance of the company’s origins: AKG.
AKG is one of the most iconic Austrian manufacturing companies. The company plays an enormous role in the worldwide professional audio industry. AKG founders—Dr. Rudolf Görike and Ernst Pless—started the company in 1947 before growing it into a huge success in the 20th century.
Unfortunately, AKG faced significant financial issues in 2010, resulting in Harman International Industries buying the company in 2017. From there, some of AKG’s most successful employees started Austrian Audio and used their vast experience from working with one of Austria’s most influential audio companies.
Austrian Audio’s First Products
The first Austrian Audio product was the OC818, which was a large-diaphragm condenser microphone. The company created it to yield top-quality sound with a spectrum of features not available on other microphones.
The OC818 had a proprietary handmade capsule that Austrian Audio made to create a transparent sound that was perfect for drums, acoustic guitar, and recording vocals. It also had a range of features—including a dual-capsule system, enabling the user to switch between cardioid and omnidirectional polar patterns, and a switchable pad and high-pass filter.
Continuing The Legacy of AKG
